Congradulations!!! We have 3 wonderful great grandchildren. 2 being boys and 1 girl. Our thrill was just as great as it was with the birth of our first born son! God allows us this joy! Again, congradulations and enjoy every second you can with him. They grow much to quickly

Holding your grandchild for the first time is really wonderful. Congratulations!! We live in Alabama; my son and 2 grandchildren live in Las Vegas where the unemployment rate is the highest in the nation. He lost his job a couple of months ago and hasn't found another one yet. I feel so helpless - I can't be there to babysit or help in his job search. Thanks to your great columns, I know there are good people there who love and care about other people.

We, too, were blessed with the birth of our first grandson this summer. I will always savor the moment I saw our oldest son look at his son the same way his father first looked at him, with a wonderful mix of joy, awe and disbelief. Even more wonderful was the look on my husband's face the first time he held his grandson. If babies are one of life's great treasures, then grandbabies are simply heaven. Congratulations and blessings to the new family!

Congradulations on your new grandson! I became a grandmother in April and I can tell you that there is nothing like it! We just returned from a four day camping trip and she was a star. I can't put into words the feelings i have for her, I'm sure you understand- Best Wishes to You, your Son and your grandson!

I became a grandmother for the first time last Wednesday so your eloquent column in our local paper yesterday was so timely! You made me cry almost as hard as I did when I saw him born. Now, as you say," I am just happy to watch him sleep." Thanks.

Hi Sharon! Congratulations on the birth of your grandson! Thank you for sharing the experience with all of us, your faithful readers! Also, I loved the column you wrote for your mother on what would have been her birthday. I cried because it reminded me of a lot of things from my own family. Thanks for all you do. You are a gem!

I too, congratulate you at the birth of your first grandchild! Welcome to the wonderful world of being a grandmother. My older sister had 2 grandbabies before me and my sister. We always wondered why my sister was spending so much time with her grandchildren and not her sisters any longer! Well, when my daughter gave birth to my first grandchild 3 years ago, I finally understood. My life has been full of the greatest joy since that day! My poor sister doesn't have a grandchild yet, but I share mine when I can. Isn't the instant joy and love fascinating? We always said that my little guy would call me "Grammy", but he decided when he was 8 months old that he would call me "Ga Ga"! Yes, just like Lady Ga Ga, but before she was popular. Have fun with your little guy! By the way... I look forward to your Column every Sunday and can't wait to hear about your feelings of being a grandma.

I absolutely LOVE your column and feel like I can relate to them all.(I always wanted to write to you as you feel like an old time friend). As I read "My first grandchild..." tears were streaming down my face. I live in Pa and my 2 daughters live in SC and Fla but I was there for the birth of both of my grand daughters. Congratulations...your life is forever changed. Looking forward to hearing more about him.

I was thrilled to read that your grandson hads arrived and know how excited you are. My daughter will give us a new grandbaby in 9 weeks and we are thrilled as our youngest grandchild is almost 19. I met you in Salado, TX last September and had hoped you might be returning this year, but certainly understand that your trips will most likely be to Monterey for awhile. It is awful being far away, my other grandchildren are in MA; but the new one will be in Dallas, only a 3 hour drive. Your column is my first choice in the Sunday paper. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us and I'll be anxious to read what you will be called by Randy. Congratulations Grandma, Patricia
